Better Living for Seniors

SENIOR RESOURCE COMMITTEE

The Senior Resource Committee works to actively promote The Helpline and its resources to caregivers, elders and aging network professionals. There are two ways you can help us do that. The first way is to encourage eligible companies to register with The Helpline through the online guide so they can be used as referrals for callers who need their service. The second way is to sponsor refrigerator magnets that will feature not only your company name, but The Helpline number in bold font. These magnets are affordable, will be processed in quantities of 1,000 and handed out at health fairs, marketing visits, networking events, etc. Please call Cheri McKee at 727-683-1422 to order magnets today.  To register your business for The Helpline follow this link: http://www.agingcarefl.org/how-to-be-listed-in-the-helpline-database/

As a special project, The Senior Resource Committee assists with The Elves for Elders Program. The purpose of Elves is to provide gifts for those who might otherwise be forgotten during the holidays. Elves connect gift givers with seniors who are less fortunate wards of the court or case managed. Trees are placed in local retail and business offices with tags on them for each senior. Members of the community are able to take a tag and fill a bag with the desires of the elder. Senior Resource Committee members are asked to assist with placing a tree in a specified location, identifying additional locations, working with the locations’ staff to retrieve filled bags and to help sort and
complete the bags at The Sunshine Center prior to pick up by the guardians/case workers.

And finally, one more fun way the Senior Resource Committee is helping connect with our other BLS members is by hosting the BSwBLS breakfasts. “Bonding and Strengthening with BLS” is a monthly networking event with a twist. The concept of BS with BLS is for relationships among professionals to take a more personal turn. While other networking events focus on what the professionals offer the community, BSwBLS focuses on what inspires, motivates, humors and captivates us. Each meeting has a different flair and provides a way to help us all feel more confident about recommending each other, finding what we have in common and enjoying our passion for helping seniors. BSwBLS meets on the first Friday of the month at 9 am at the Largo Mall Panera. It’s really a great way to start your weekend!

The Senior Resource Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of every other month (even months) at the AAA, usually at 3:00p.m.
