One Member's Testimonial "Can I help you?” were the words that came from behind the desk. Boy did she ever. When I walked into the Sunshine Senior Center in downtown St. Pete on that early fall day, little did I know what an impact that visit would have on my next several months. Carol Radin is the Executive Director for the City of St. Petersburg Aging Service Department. Her offer to help turned into introducing me to the Area Agency on Aging (she told me she worked there for 12 years!) and a great group called Better Living for Seniors. “Perfect for Me!”, was my initial thought as I explored my options of how to work with other people that had the same passion and desire to improve the quality of life for our senior population. So, I immediately went back to my office, went to the BLS website and member application and filled it out right away. I looked for the committee meetings, put them in my day timer and made my way around. One of the first events was the BLS Consortium at Menorah Manor and I was flabbergasted with all the camaraderie. It had the feeling of a family reunion, more so than a networking event, and I liked that. I have been a member of the Chamber of Commerce and other “networking” organizations, but I have never been surrounded with so many compassionate, kind- hearted people. “You can sit with us”, I heard as I assembled my breakfast and looked for a seat. Everyone was so nice and accommodating that made me want to step right in and become an active member. I am honored to be a recent sponsor of the May Bugle, an active participant in the PR committee and also help with the Night to Remember Celebration.
